WASHINGTON DC – Michele Gallucci, VP of Business Development & Strategy at Medocity, joined a panel of experts at the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy’s 2016 annual meeting hosting a focused CPE session entitled Patient‐Centered Medicine – Mobile Technologies and Specialty Pharmacy.

Held at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, fellow panelists included:
Thomas Cohn, MS, Chief Strategy Officer, Asembia
Thomas Morrow, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Next IT
David Medvedeff, PharmD, MBA, CEO, VUCA Health
Jason Bornhorst, CEO, Patient IO

With broad and increasing adoption of mobile technologies, the moderated discussion focused on the role of pharmacists to better engage patients as well as the importance of designing digital solutions with more personality to provide coaching, and ultimately, improve adherence. Gallucci noted the importance of closely working with patients to get them up to speed with new technologies. “Patients are more likely to stay engaged in technology if they know there’s a real person on the other side looking out for, or monitoring them”, she said, “and, they may need some initial handholding from a nurse or care coordinator to demonstrate how a new health app works to make their lives easier.”

“When you bring a new technology to a patient population, that population has to clearly understand what the technology does and what kind of value they can expect to receive,” Ms. Gallucci stressed. “Just sending a brochure saying ‘this is coming to you’ and letting them read about it is not enough.”
