Remote Patient Monitoring Extends Survival and Improves Quality of Life

by | Jun 5, 2017 | News

ASCO 2017 ANNUAL MEETING – Web-based tool provides alerts to clinicians and demonstrates major benefits including longer survival rates for patients with metastatic cancer.

In a new landmark study, patients experienced longer survival rates and improved quality of life while using a web-based tool to self-report their symptoms. The randomized clinical trial was conducted involving 766 patients receiving chemotherapy. Patients who regularly self-reported their symptoms using the web-based tool lived a median of 5 months longer than those assigned to usual care. In addition, patients reported improved quality of life and experienced fewer emergency room visits and hospitalizations. The study results were presented by Ethan Basch, MD, MSc in the June 4 plenary session of the 2017 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting in Chicago, and published simultaneously online in JAMA. 1, 2

“This study is a milestone for the entire remote patient monitoring industry, and it further validates the vision we founded our company upon nearly 4 years ago,” said Raj Agarwal, CEO and President of Medocity. “Real world evidence such as this clearly demonstrates the power of virtual care technology to positively impact patient outcomes and improve their quality-of-life.”
